Market activities as at 20-05-2022
The Nigerian Equities closed on a bearish note this week, dipping by 0.22% week-on-week , as it recorded losses in four out of the five trading days, as measured by the All Share Index. Consequently, month to date return stands at positive 6.73%, while quarter to date performance is 12.81% and year to date closed at 24.03%. Market Capitalization also dipped by 0.55% today losing ₦159.32billion, to close at ₦28.562trillion. Trading activities closed on a mixed note today as the total volume of shares traded rose by 59.01% to 436.57mn units, while total values of shares traded dipped by 61.85% to close at ₦3,222.61billion in 4,716deals. The Oil & Gas and Insurance Sectors were the best performing sectors this week, recording 5.15% and 2.28% respectively. All other sectors under our watch posed negative returns, including NGX 30, Industrial Goods, Consumer Goods, and Banking, with 1.24%, 0.69%,1.46%, and 0.04% respectively. JAIZBANK(142.36mn units), CHIPLC(100.062mn units), and TRANSCORP(21.34mn units) led by volume of shares traded, while AIRTELAFRI(₦1.032bn), MTNN(₦461.52mn), and ZENITHBANK(₦168.63mn) led by traded value. NEIMETH(10.00%) led the 28 gainers for the day, including CONOIL(9.88%), MCNICHOLS(9.79%), CUTIX(9.77%), and NEM(9.75%), while LEARNAFRICA(-10.00%) led the other 25 price decliners including GSPECPLC(-9.79%), ACADEMY(-9.56%), ROYALEX(-9.52%), and FTNCOCOA(-8.57%).
